Damn, I’m about to start a video game blog. I just stumbled across some pretty crazy stuff on the web. It all started with an innocuous video of a panda and I noticed this video to the side:

It’s like 1943 for the nes except on brain-damage and LSD! The description said ‘Timpo Fortress’ so I googled it and came across this guy’s website:

He had a link to download the game here. But then I noticed his sidebar had some cool looking games too:

On the page is another link to a game called Fren-ze which you can download a demo of. Just take a look at the screenshot!

There’s actually a bunch of games on the Hermitgames website, I tried most of them. There’s something apealing about the simplicity of the games and yet the visual effects are really sophisticated.

What kind of tied all these games together was this sense of complex geometric layering and it all made sense when the guy from the2bears mentioned his inspiration being Conway’s Life game. I followed some links and came across a page that has a javascript version of the life program you can play with online. It was actually the one thing I had the most fun looking at, I tried some of the different settings and made a little animated gif from it:

What a trip! Maybe next time I’ll get to posting some things about mugen!
